There HAS to be a post about wildflowers in my 100 Days of Art. People in my life know how much time I spend photographing, writing about, and creating based on wildflowers. My photographic archive has thousands of wildflower photographs. Some of them are shown on Fifteen Acres, my nature blog. I gain so much inspiration from wildflowers in my surface design and fabric designs. Without wildflowers, I would never have become a visual artist.
A cancer diagnosis in 2013 inspired me to pick up the camera and find out what grew in our bushland. Walking around in nature is extremely healing. I found that all other thoughts went out of my head as I looked for tiny flowers. Many Australian wildflowers are tiny – some less than 5cm tall for the entire plant. Finding these needs a lot of focus.
The look of our local wildflowers also differs from the traditional notion of what a flower looks like. When I saw my photographs, I was so captivated by them. The colours and forms are embedded in my artistic brain now.
A Gallery of Wildflower Photographs.
Pictures speak a thousand words, as the saying goes. Here is a gallery of some of my favourite wildflower photographs I’ve taken over the years. All of them were photographed on our property.
