‘Morning Light’ is a photograph I took in 2013. It’s one of the few examples of still life in my work. It was taken just after dawn when the first rays of sunlight filtered through the window into the dining room. This was the year I was first diagnosed with cancer.
The dark background with just three illuminated objects – the rose, the sculpture and the candle – appeals to something deep within me. This photograph evokes quiet reflection. It symbolises peace, wellness and a tentative hope a new day.
Initially, I used the image as the front of a gift card I had for sale. Maybe I’ll use it again in that context. The image allows for people to write about many intimate thoughts to loved ones.
I’ve posted ‘Morning Light’ in social media before, and I’ll probably post it again. I hope this still life resonates with you, as much as it does with me.
