Day 71: Working on my Arts Trail Display

The art of display is something I struggle with. So, I’m starting to work on my Arts Trail display now. Late last year I bought an 8 cube display unit. Setting it up isn’t as straight forward as I imagined. It requires all kinds of stands and racks, with specific angles to catch the light.

You might argue that placing objects in a frame is essentially the same thing as structuring a painting. However there are lots of 3D elements involved in creating and interesting show. Scarves, for example, need to be draped or folded in a way to show of the designs and colours. It makes me appreciate the skills of those who set up retail displays.

Curating the Art

Each year I work toward a new exhibition of paintings for the Arts Trail too. This year the theme is the environment and climate change.

Hanging the new paintings on the gallery wall will be fine as most of the works are large. This means working out where to place the artworks currently hanging. I don’t have any storage space. This was how I managed it last year, with paintings leaning against the wall. Not ideal, but it is a studio, not a gallery.

I’m really hoping I can find hanging space on other walls. Also, a few table easels dotted around the room. Look out for the complete rearrangement of the studio!
