Scented Sundew flowers are one of my favourite Australian native flowers. They show up time and again in my photographs, drawings, and artwork. It has to do with the purity of the white flowers set on the deadly, insect-trapping leaves. Vivid green leaves thick with red sticky hairs. There are several ways of taking it from flower to floral. This post is about the first one.

From Flower to Floral
When I first started to design fabrics, the elements came from my original photographs. This time, I wanted to draw the element. I chose to focus on the structure of the Scented Sundew flower, excluding the leaves. My focus was capturing the delicate filaments in the centre of the flower, against the broad flat petals.

Structuring the Fabric Design
With such a simple flower, I wanted the fabric to be uncluttered and clean. I decided on a one directional design with large flowers in one neutral colour. This design is for sale on Spoonflower as a fabric, a wallpaper, and home decor designs. It looks fabulous as a doona cover.
